BENUE SMART EDUCATION NETWORK

A community for practical school improvement.

A school does not have to navigate digital change alone.

The network brings schools together to exchange experience, strengthen everyday teaching and administration, and sustain the effective use of smart education systems.

It is the Benue State network of SENN, established under the Smart Education Nigeria Initiative (SENI). Participation is organised through BenSEP within Smart Benue, with CIE Nigeria coordinating the national framework and CIE Benue supporting local engagement.

FIND YOUR PARTICIPATION ROUTE

Where does your school or expertise fit?

01

Schools seeking membership

The initial membership scope covers recognised public, private and faith-based primary and secondary schools in Benue. An authorised representative applies for each physical campus, with leadership support and a nominated coordinator.

02

Schools still preparing

You can express interest even if your website or school systems are not yet ready. Describe the gaps and support you need. Membership is confirmed only after the required standards are verified.

03

Educators, specialists & partners

Teachers and school leaders contribute through their schools. Trainers, technology providers, development organisations and other specialists can contact CIE Benue about collaboration; a partnership enquiry is separate from school admission.

WHY PARTICIPATE?

Learn from others. Improve what matters.

The network creates a structure for continuing improvement, connecting your school’s priorities with a wider community of practice.

01

Practical peer learning

Exchange approaches to school administration, digital teaching, communication and implementation. Learn from the challenges and solutions other schools are experiencing.

02

A clearer improvement pathway

Use the readiness review, minimum standards and a school action plan to identify priorities, close gaps and make better use of the systems you already have.

03

State and national connections

Take part in a state network connected to SENN, with opportunities for dialogue, shared learning and feedback through Smart Education Forums.

04

Relevant programme information

Receive information about confirmed resources, activities and partner opportunities. Explore related BenSEP programmes where they address your school’s needs.

05

A platform to contribute

Share useful experience and demonstrate practical implementation. Pioneer schools help establish the network and encourage other schools to improve.

06

Continuity beyond installation

Keep attention on the people, processes and support needed to use technology well, with agreed targets and proportionate reviews of progress.

Membership is free. Optional services, devices or training packages may have separate terms. Membership does not guarantee funding, free equipment, accreditation or access to a particular paid service. Activity dates and offers are communicated when confirmed.

THE PIONEER SCHOOL PATHWAY

Help shape the network in your LGA.

One qualified Pioneer Member School is intended for each of Benue’s 23 LGAs.

Pioneer schools help establish the network, share implementation experience and demonstrate practical use to other interested schools. Pioneer designation does not give a school authority over other schools in its LGA.

How pioneer participation works

  • Schools may respond to an open invitation, direct invitation or school-group nomination.
  • All routes follow the same qualification and selection process.
  • If no school meets the requirements in an LGA, its pioneer place remains open.
  • Other interested schools may be considered as membership expands.

Selection dates and the final assessment timetable will be announced separately. An early enquiry or direct invitation does not guarantee selection.

WHAT YOUR SCHOOL NEEDS

A practical standard for membership.

Admission is based on verified capability and commitment. Any suitable school management platform can qualify if it meets the network’s minimum standard.

01

A functional school website

A live, secure and current website with accurate school information, working contact routes and a clear link to the school portal.

02

A working school portal

Appropriate access for different users, learner and staff records, classes, subjects, sessions and terms, with school communication functions.

03

Secure results management

A demonstrable process for assessment, calculations, approval, publication, private access and controlled corrections.

04

Evidence of everyday use

School-controlled accounts, a current academic setup, responsible operators, technical support and a usable backup or export arrangement.

05

A nominated school coordinator

An authorised contact who helps organise participation, attends orientation, keeps communications current and coordinates implementation.

06

A commitment to improvement

School leadership support, acceptance of network standards, agreed state targets, peer learning and proportionate progress reviews. All mandatory requirements must pass; an overall score cannot compensate for a missing function.

Not ready in every area? You can still express interest and identify your gaps. The state team can explain the qualification process; you may choose any suitable provider to address the requirements.

FROM INTEREST TO MEMBERSHIP

Your next steps, clearly explained.

Pioneer Member School places are by invitation only. If your school has received an invitation, respond online and quote your invitation reference. Other schools can register interest in future membership.

  1. Prepare your school’s information

Confirm leadership support, choose an authorised representative and coordinator, and gather your campus details and a realistic picture of your systems.

  2. Submit an expression of interest

Complete the school application form, select Benue and your LGA, and describe readiness, priorities and support needs. Submit once per physical campus.

  3. Save your application reference

A successful submission displays a reference and offers a downloadable receipt. Keep it for follow-up with the coordination team. It confirms receipt, not membership or selection.

  4. Complete the readiness and eligibility review

The state team checks school recognition and authority to apply, reviews institutional eligibility and arranges a supervised demonstration of the website, portal and results workflow. Any gaps must be addressed before qualification.

  5. Await qualification and pioneer selection

Qualified schools are considered within their LGA through the agreed selection process. The team will communicate assessment arrangements; no fixed response time or selection deadline has been announced.

  6. Confirm participation and begin

Following selection and the authorised admission process, complete the participation commitment, receive your membership reference and agree a first-term improvement plan.

BEFORE YOU APPLY

Have these details to hand.

The application asks about your institution and its readiness. You do not need to submit learner-level information.

  • School and campus name, address, LGA, ownership and school level.
  • Recognition reference and issuing authority; approximate learner and teacher numbers.
  • Authorised representative and coordinator names, roles and contact details.
  • Website and portal addresses, if available, and the status of key school systems.
  • Your first-term priorities, leadership support, gaps and support needs.

Do not include passwords, individual learner results or identity documents. Evidence arrangements are handled during assessment.

STATEWIDE PARTICIPATION

A place for progress in every LGA.

The pioneer pathway covers all 23 Local Government Areas. This is the coverage area, not a list of confirmed member schools.

A FAIR QUALIFICATION PROCESS

Readiness first. Pioneer selection second.

Show what your school can do

Verification looks at your school’s working systems, not a supplier’s generic demonstration. Prepare to show current website information, learner and staff records, academic setup, communication, a complete assessment-to-results workflow, and backup or export arrangements.

A new system may use clearly labelled sample results alongside genuine school onboarding evidence. A school-specific subdomain is acceptable; a bespoke website or a particular domain extension is not required.

Attendance, timetabling, fee management and a provider’s full catalogue are not additional baseline admission requirements unless an adopted revision explicitly adds them.

What pioneer assessment considers

  • Leadership commitment and authorised staff time.
  • A feasible first-term improvement plan.
  • A capable coordinator and staff participation.
  • A practical contribution to peer learning.
  • Implementation feasibility and support needs.
  • Educational value and inclusive access.

These are the framework’s proposed assessment areas. Final weights, thresholds and the reconsideration process will be published with the adopted state call. Qualification alone does not guarantee the pioneer place.

YOUR FIRST TERM IN THE NETWORK

Start with a manageable plan.

Choose two or three achievable priorities, assign a responsible person to each, identify the resources needed and agree how progress will be reviewed. The exact support offer and schedule are confirmed at onboarding.

01

Orient your coordinator

Confirm the school’s support contacts, participation arrangements and how to ask questions or report a problem.

02

Put systems into everyday use

Maintain the website and core functions, complete a results cycle, or improve an agreed records or teaching workflow.

03

Share and review progress

Take part in an agreed peer-learning activity or accessible alternative, provide a brief progress update and identify the next practical improvement.

Your school retains responsibility for its administration, educational decisions and purchasing. It does not have to adopt every BenSEP programme or buy from a named provider to participate.

QUESTIONS BEFORE YOU JOIN

Make an informed next step.

Is membership free?

Yes. There is no joining, annual membership, renewal or routine qualification-verification fee. Optional purchased services have their own terms, which should be confirmed before committing.

Can a school without a website or portal apply?

Yes. Submit an expression of interest and describe what is missing. Application and qualification are different stages: membership requires verification that the minimum standards have been met.

Must we buy a particular system or change our provider?

No. Any suitable platform may qualify if it meets the verified standard. Schools may use a suitable provider of their choice.

Can teachers or individuals join independently?

The current formal application is for school membership. Teachers and school leaders participate through their institution. Individuals who want to contribute expertise or explore professional learning can contact CIE Benue about the appropriate route.

Is one application enough for a school group?

The intake is campus-based. Submit one expression of interest per physical school campus, using the correct LGA and campus details. School-group nomination is an available application route.

Does applying make us a Pioneer Member School?

No. An application reference confirms receipt only. Qualification, selection, participation commitments and the authorised admission process must be completed before membership is confirmed.

What if another school is selected in our LGA?

The pioneer designation is limited to one qualified school per LGA. Other interested schools may be considered as membership expands. Contact the state team about the next available participation route.

When will we hear back?

The selection dates and final assessment timetable will be announced separately. Keep your application reference and use it when following up with CIE Benue. An automatic email acknowledgement is not currently enabled.

What is a Smart Education Forum?

It is a platform for dialogue, peer learning and programme feedback within the network. Dates, formats and participation details are communicated when confirmed.

Can a member school withdraw or change its provider?

A school may withdraw in writing. Separate provider contracts keep their own terms. A provider change or major system migration requires verification of affected functions. If a school encounters a gap, the state team reviews it and agrees corrective action; a missed improvement target does not automatically create a fee or end membership.

How can we correct or withdraw an application?

Contact the coordination team through CIE Benue and quote your application reference. Read the application privacy notice for information about how the register is managed.
